Laura J. Dulaney

Assistant Director

Laura Dulaney's background is an amalgamation of her interests in education, writing, languages, theater, and social constructs. She has studied in the U.S., Spain, and Japan, interned at the Kennedy Center for performing arts, and taught Spanish, English, theater arts, and writing at both private and public schools as well as at Virginia Tech.

She likes to think that her varied interests and experiences help her to bring unique viewpoints and effective approaches to educational and pedagogical issues. An avid and seemingly perpetual student, Laura began her history of degree seeking with a B.A. in English from Furman University. She then earned an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech, and later returned to Blacksburg to earn an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. Hopefully this will hold her for a while.

In the realm of education, Laura is particularly interested in pedagogy and ideology. Her current specific focuses are writing across the curriculum, how the writing process is linked to the learning process, deconstructing the box that is the institution of public education, and the organic nature of language.

In her spare time she likes to read, play racquetball, watch movies, and bake.
