The term colloquium takes its origin from the Latin colloqui, which means, literally, "to talk together." Contextually, the term has come to describe informal academic seminars in which individuals, who possess an array of expertise and experience, meet to exchange ideas and insights on a variety of issues. The Interactive Colloquia series developed by the Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research serves to promote and recognize excellence in higher education instruction by calling on faculty from all disciplines to actively reflect upon their own practice, to critically engage their colleagues in discussions concerning pedagogical theory, and to openly share their effective, innovative, and transformative instructional designs and methodologies.

The colloquia offerings are facilitated by faculty from across the university, whose unique knowledge and application of pedagogical theory, learner-centered instruction, and the scholarship of teaching and learning provide enriching contributions to the larger community of practice.

We hope you will find time to join us for our upcoming events where we will talk together about those critical issues we face in leading undergraduate and graduate students toward habits of mind that encourage life-long learning.
