SCHEV Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards
The SCHEV Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards are designed to recognize faculty member excellence in teaching, research and service among Virginia's public and private colleges and universities. Outstanding Faculty Award nominees must possess a record of outstanding accomplishment as a faculty member in Virginia, reflective of the nominee's institution's mission. In addition this outstanding accomplishment must reflect four areas of scholarly endeavor: teaching, research, integration and service.
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award
The scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) involves the rigorous examination and investigation of higher education teaching and learning; that is, SoTL uses a research-based, scientific and scholarly lens to examine questions in higher education pedagogy, making the results public for examination and critique. The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award is designed to recognize those faculty members who have dedicated themselves to the pursuit of scholarship addressing the realm of higher education teaching and learning. For further information, please contact Peter Doolittle, Director of the Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research.
Edward S. Diggs Teaching Scholars Award
Sponsored by the Virginia Tech Academy of Teaching Excellence, the Diggs Teaching Scholars Award was established in 1992 and is presented annually to three Virginia Tech faculty members to recognize exceptional contributions to the teaching program and learning environment. A cash award is given to each recipient and to his or her respective department. A year after receiving the award, new Diggs Teaching Scholars are invited to lead the Diggs Roundtable, a series of presentations and a discussion related to their innovative teaching. The award is supported by an endowed fund established through an estate gift from the late Edward S. and Hattie Wilson Diggs. Mr. Diggs was a 1914 graduate of Virginia Tech. For further information, please contact Peter Doolittle, Director of the Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research.
University Exemplary Department Award

With this award, the University publicly honors the collaborative efforts and successes of a group of dedicated colleagues - actively performing work that is essential for sustaining a truly excellent academic environment.
